Twenty-nine people from a Quaker group formed in lockdown came to meet together in person for the very first time at the Quaker Glenthorne Guest House and Conference Centre last month. The Friends spent the weekend of 17-19 March together in Grasmere in Cumbria to celebrate three years of Meeting for Worship as the Glenthorne Zoom group.

The online Meeting for Worship started in the week of the first Covid lockdown in March 2020, with the initial Meeting taking place on 26 March. Hosted by Terry Winteron, Friend-in-Residence at Glenthorne, the twenty- minute online gathering started at 9.15 am and has occurred every day except Sunday since then.

Terry Winterton said: ‘People came from all over the United Kingdom for a fabulous weekend of friendship and love. It was a time of celebration, deep sharing and lots of laughter in a beautiful setting of mountains and lakes.’

He added: ‘The Zoom group continues to flourish with a regular attendance of between twenty to thirty people every weekday and is planning to meet together at Glenthorne again next year.’
