Two Quaker libraries have launched a joint initiative

by Harry Albright 17th February 2017

A new initiative has been launched between the two most important Quaker libraries in Britain.

Britain Yearly Meeting and the Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre are undertaking the Joint Libraries Development Project. It will explore how the libraries at Friends House in London and at Woodbrooke in Birmingham might work more closely together.

The aim of the project is to ensure that the two libraries are equipped to meet the present and future needs of Friends. By utilising technology the libraries hope to increase use of the wealth of material and resources that they hold.

One possibility being explored is a shared online library with digital versions of some of the manuscripts, books, pictures and artefacts that are currently only accessible by visiting London or Birmingham.

Friends and those with an interest in Quakerism are being asked to take part in a survey about the type of resources people are looking for and how they wish to access them.

The survey is open until the end of February and is available on SurveyMonkey.
