The Quaker Lesbian Group gathered for their second annual weekend gathering last month

Twelve members of the Quaker Lesbian Group (QLG) met to discuss the Quaker testimony of equality last month for their second annual weekend gathering.

Helen Carter-Shaw, from Bournemouth Coastal Area Meeting, told the Friend that the meeting at Northfields Meeting House was the fourth gathering for the group, each of which focuses on a testimony. ‘Asked to say what were the most pressing areas where inequality needed to be addressed, [Friends] were, sadly, spoiled for choice. Suggestions included: education; climate emergency; poverty; the UK voting system [and age]; and treatment of transgender people, particularly within Quakerism. Asked what could be done to address these issues, QLG members recognised that their actions and decisions as individuals could help make the change they sought. One Friend used the time to write up her experience of protesting at September’s Defence and Security Equipment International fair and how that linked to equality and privilege.’
