Quaker-inspired concerts for peace
Musician Laurence Perkins is performing a series of fundraising concerts in November
An international bassoonist is performing a series of fundraising concerts inspired by Quaker peace work.
‘I’ve always been drawn to Quakers, whose beliefs and work have always resonated with me,’ said musician Laurence Perkins, ‘which is why I am undertaking a series of concerts in aid of the survivors of war.
‘I have done concerts in Ukraine and Belarus, and was hugely impressed with their passion for music.’
The series of fundraising concerts is in support of all survivors of war, with professional and amateur musicians taking part unpaid. The programmes will include music of many different periods and genres, said Laurence Perkins, including classical works and traditional folk melodies. The concerts are free, with opportunities to donate. ‘I contribute to two charities which are both doing great work with the survivors from Ukraine, Gaza and other war-torn parts of the world,’ he said. ‘Peace, and the ability to live, work, communicate and travel freely, are fundamental human rights as defined by the United Nations. Sadly, there are many people around the world who do not enjoy this freedom, and it is these survivors of war and conflict that need support in order to move forward and rebuild their lives, their homes and their communities.’
The concerts start at Apothecaries Hall in London on 21 November, before travelling around England. More details can be found at https://laurenceperkins.com.
