Quaker Centre Gathering in Sheffield
Friends from Quaker centres across Britain gathered in Sheffield last month
Thirty-three Friends gathered at Sheffield Meeting House last month for the annual two-day Quaker Centre Gathering.
Terry Winterton, Friend in Residence at Glenthorne Guest House and Conference Centre in Grasmere, Cumbria, told the Friend: ‘This was the eleventh year and it has grown from just a handful of people to encompass twelve of the larger Quaker centres across the country.’
Speakers at the event from 15-17 January included: Paul Grey, CEO of Friends House Hospitality Ltd; Juliet Prager, deputy recording clerk of Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM); and Simon Francis of Sheffield Mind on Mental Health Awareness. Paul Parker, recording clerk of BYM, also talked about ‘building the Quaker Network’, and Fred Langridge of the Quaker Gender and Sexual Diversity Community led a session on ‘trans awareness and gender diversity’.
Terry Winterton said: ‘This lovely gathering of Quaker trustees and staff from different centres demonstrated that it is possible to work together to build a stronger community of work, friendship and witness within shared values and commercial realities in these turbulent times.’
