Twenty-five children, thirty-eight adults and eight dogs enjoyed a week of Quaker camping last month.

The group of Quaker Campers, a Quaker Recognised Body, gathered in Tywyn in Wales for seven days from 3 to 10 August. Eleven-year-old Tyler Green, a member of Quaker Campers, told the Friend: ‘It was lovely. We were down by the sea front, where many of us went on walks to Aberdovey, or just for a stroll around the beach. We loved going on the nearby steam train. The best night, in my opinion, was “entertainment evening” – we had acrobatics, poems, karaoke and much more. Some could argue that the “shared pudding evening” was even better, although we were all a bit hyperactive afterwards.’

Founded in 1979, Quaker Campers has been a Quaker Recognised Body since 2018. This year’s camp included families and individuals, with a wide mix of ages. ‘The youngest camper was nine months old and the oldest was in her seventies,’ said Tyler.

Next year’s camp will be from 26 July until 2 August in Norfolk. Those interested in joining can contact quaker.campers@gmail.com
