Quaker Arts Network heads to Greenbelt
‘The Loving Earth Project will be mounting an exhibition of some of its textile art panels and offering workshops for people to start making their own.’
The Quaker Arts Network (QAN) will be making an appearance at the Greenbelt festival over the August bank holiday this year, for the first time.
‘The Loving Earth Project will be mounting an exhibition of some of its textile art panels and offering workshops for people to start making their own,’ Linda Murgatroyd, from QAN, told the Friend. ‘QAN will also be hosting a gazebo, offering spiritual hospitality, a range of participative activities and opportunities to chat and find out about Quaker witness and worship. QAN is seeking a few more volunteers to help in these activities, and also hopes other friends will come and visit us there, and bring their friends.’
This major outreach initiative at Boughton House, near Kettering, does not come without costs, said Linda. ‘But we feel that this should be a great opportunity to reach out to spiritual seekers who share Quaker values. QAN is a small volunteer-run Quaker Recognised Body, so we are inviting contributions from Meetings and individual Friends to QAN’s costs, and trust that Meetings will offer to help volunteers with their expenses, if asked.’
The festival, from 22 to 25 August, also includes: Grammy Award-winning Corinne Bailey Rae; hip-hop duo Bob Vylan; House Gospel Choir; criminal justice activist Lady Unchained; and ecological economist Kate Raworth.
An application form for volunteering, and link to a JustGiving page, are on the QAN website. You can also find out more at the QAN AGM on 1 June. The closing date for volunteer applications is 3 June.
