QSA reaches target
Quaker Social Action reached a £10,000 fundraising target last month
Quaker Social Action (QSA) was celebrating last month when it reached its £10,000 target for the Big Give Christmas Challenge. The money will go to its Down to Earth programme, which provides practical support for people struggling with funeral costs.
According to QSA: ‘Funeral poverty is a major problem in the UK: according to 2019 research by Royal London, twelve per cent of people in the UK faced with a funeral struggle to pay for it, and people in this group take on an average debt of £1,990.’
The organisation said it does receive ‘important’ grant funding from several charitable trusts, but estimates that ‘over the year we need to raise an additional £500 per working day to cover running costs’.
