Quaker Social Action has gained the certification from the Living Wage Foundation

Quaker Social Action (QSA) has gained the Living Wage Foundation’s certification. This means that every member of the east London charity’s staff, including contracted workers, earns not just the minimum but the living wage. This is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually, according to the cost of living in the UK.

‘QSA’s trustees have always consulted closely with staff on pay and conditions and have always felt that as an organisation concerned with poverty in the UK, we should operate as a good employer,’ fundraising and communications manager Sarah Hind told the Friend.

‘We’ve had contact with Citizens UK, who are known for their lobbying on the living wage, and believe that this is an ever more important step for all employers to consider and take, particularly given the current growth in in-work poverty.’

The certification process was straightforward, said Sarah. Once accredited, an organisation can use the Living Wage logo on its publicity, and will itself feature on the Living Wage website.

QSA has paid its staff the London living wage for some time, but is hoping that winning the certification will encourage other employers to do so.
