QSA discusses funeral poverty on radio
A representative from Quaker Social Action took part in a BBC Radio Four programme on funeral poverty
Quaker Social Action (QSA) took part in a BBC Radio Four programme last week to discuss funeral poverty. Claire Brandon, manager of QSA’s ‘Down to Earth’ campaign, spoke to presenter Joan Bakewell on We Need To Talk About Death on 19 January about how to have an affordable and meaningful funeral.
Giles Robinson, communications officer at QSA, told the Friend: ‘We were approached by the producers. They took interest and invited Claire to be on the panel. The show covers a lot of our work, done through the “Down to Earth” and “Fair Funerals” campaigns.’
Topics explored on the programme include: the importance of planning ahead, low-cost options, public health funerals, support for people struggling with costs (particularly the government’s Social Fund Funeral Expenses Payment), and actions to tackle funeral poverty.
