QSA announce new homeless project
Around forty people came to meeting to discuss responses to homelessness
Quaker Social Action (QSA) has launched a new scheme aimed at providing a space for people who do not have access to a kitchen to prepare meals.
The Islington-based scheme ‘Cook Up’ was announced at a QSA event on 17 March.
Around forty people came to the meeting to discuss responses to homelessness, including presentations from QSA’s Claire Brandon and Rachel Woolf, the founder and director of Street Storage.
Claire Brandon spoke about QSA’s latest research into homelessness services following the merger with Quaker Homeless Action (QHA) in December 2020. She also announced another London-based QSA project called Turn a Corner, based on QHA’s mobile library, which will start when lockdown-easing allows.
QSA has also entered a three-year grant-making partnership with Royal London, an investment company. The funds will support extra staff capacity in the ‘Down to Earth’ team, helping an estimated additional 160 clients per year through the national helpline. Royal London has been working with QSA to campaign against funeral poverty for almost a decade.
