Quaker Peace & Social Witness (QPSW) are working on ‘Remembrance for Peace’ events in preparation for Armistice Day 2018, which is on Sunday 11 November.

The QPSW team is seeking to reach out to young people and inform them about alternatives to war.

In conjunction with a coalition of charities and schools under the INSPIRE peace project, QPSW has supported Friends in organising educational peace initiatives for many of children throughout the UK.

Quakers in Malvern, for instance, have persuaded a secondary school to hold a Peace Week.

In Wales, schools will receive peace awards at a conference at the Temple of Peace. At St Paul’s Cathedral in London, children will drop origami birds of peace from the dome. Chichester Cathedral will begin a series of peace and reconciliation events on 21 September, the International Day of Peace. Their Remembrance activities conclude on 9 November with an event exploring the idea that the flap of a butterfly’s wings in one world can cause a whirlwind for peace in another.
