QPSW has endorsed Fuel Poverty Action’s Energy Bill of Rights
Quaker Peace & Social Witness (QPSW) has endorsed Fuel Poverty Action’s Energy Bill of Rights. The bill was launched at the Houses of Parliament on Monday 27 October (see above).
‘Quaker Peace & Social Witness is committed to working on energy justice – this means calling for clean not dirty energy, and for energy that is affordable for everyone. It also all means challenging the unequal power of fossil fuel companies,’ QPSW said in a statement.
‘We support the Energy Bill of Rights as a powerful way of demonstrating our faith belief that sustainability and equality issues need to be addressed together.’
The bill aims to encourage consumers ‘to join the movement for a clean, affordable and renewable energy system’, according to Fuel Poverty Action.
Among the MPs present were John McDonnell and Caroline Lucas. Among the other groups who spoke at the event included the Greater London Pensioners’ Association, the PCS Union, the All African Women’s Group, Disabled People Against the Cuts, Reclaim the Power, the Lambeth Pensioners Action Group and the Hackney Energy Coop.
