The Quaker Gender and Sexual Diversity Community gathered to mark ten years since Yearly Meeting committed to support equal marriage
Members of the Quaker Gender and Sexual Diversity Community (QGSDC) gathered at Westminster Meeting House this month to hear talks from Britain Yearly Meeting staff ten years after Yearly Meeting committed to campaign for equal marriage. Co-clerk Yvonne Wood told the Friend that the event ‘Quaker Work for Inclusion’ on 1 February was ‘as usual… a chance for LGBT+ Friends to meet and share together’. Michael Booth, Britain Yearly Meeting’s (BYM’s) church government adviser, spoke about Friends’ journey to equal marriage and some lessons learned, in relation to LGBTQ+ acceptance.
Meanwhile, Edwina Peart, BYM’s inclusion and diversity coordinator, talked about LGBTQ+ intersections, her Quaker work, and her learning from the diversity and inclusion conference at Woodbrooke in January.
Yvonne Wood said before the event that ‘their thoughts and words will be set within a “creative listening” format where everyone has the opportunity to share their story’.
