QCEA quizzes the EU on the Mediterranean crisis
QCEA study tour group quiz European officials
Friends participating in a Quaker Council for European Affairs (QCEA) study tour took advantage of a visit to the Council of the European Union to question officials about Europe’s response to the ongoing crisis in the Mediterranean.
The visit by fifteen Friends from Britain and ten from Kenya, Sweden, Ireland, Palestine, Norway and Germany, took place the day after an emergency meeting of European leaders. Friends were able to put their questions to members of the Council (the institution which supports cooperation between the national governments of European Union countries, and organises meetings between European leaders).
At the emergency meeting, the European Union agreed to use military force against people traffickers and their boats.
