QCA plans research into Quaker centre food
Quaker Concern for Animals are conducting research on the provision of plant-based diets in Quaker centres
Quaker Concern for Animals (QCA) is researching the provision of plant-based diets in Quaker centres overseas and in the UK.
The research is an attempt to build on Friends House’s adoption of its CreatureKind initiative several months ago, where veganism was embraced as part of the daily menu.
Thom Bonneville, from QCA, told the Friend: ‘QCA has been researching menus from different centres, including Charney Manor and Swarthmoor Hall, and plans to put together a questionnaire and collate more facts and figures.’
He explained that the aim is two-fold: ‘One, to find out for our interest and gauge where Friends are at and, two, to encourage the adoption of plant-based menu choices.’
He added that animal welfare fitted into his Quaker testimonies of peace, equality, simplicity and sustainability: ‘We have a commitment to sustainability and we are ignoring one of the primary contributors to environmental degradation and carbon consumption.’
