Recently tabled Bill includes call to end the practice of indefinite immigration detention

The Quaker Asylum and Refugee Network (QARN) is urging Friends to write to MPs seeking support for recently-tabled amendments to the Immigration and Social Security Coordination (EU Withdrawal) Bill 2019-21.

Fred Ashmore, from QARN, told the Friend: ‘[The Bill], which is now going through parliament, has just had amendments tabled to the report stage of the bill. These amendments from Conservative David Davis with substantial cross-party support will have numerous effects but the most important one is to end the practice of indefinite immigration detention. Quaker and Asylum Refugee Network have asked all members and ask all Friends to write to their MP seeking support for the amendments which were tabled on Monday 29 June.’

Members of QARN told the Friend: ‘Britain’s indefinite immigration detention, unique in Europe, has brought widespread condemnation including from the UNHCR and human rights organisations. It’s #Time4ATimeLimit and the amendments to this Bill make it possible for politicians of principle to set right this long-standing blot on the UK’s law.’
