Prayer and presence

Lesley Morris writes about her inner silence and the meaning of God

I often moan to myself that Friends don’t talk enough, for me, that is, about what we feel God to be – how we experience it/him/her; but I also know I don’t talk about it much either.  I’m quite gregarious, certainly capable of opening the conversation, but… it is a tender, sensitive topic; because it is so subjective, so experiential, it defies ordinary language and we cannot all be poetic. It demands that we go ‘inside’ ourselves, and that is not a comfortable place from which to have an articulate, clear, ‘outside’ conversation.
