Poetry speaks of displacement

Leaveners launch a poetry archive

by Tara Craig 25th September 2015

The Quaker arts group Leaveners is harnessing the power of poetry to develop awareness of displaced peoples.

Leaveners’ new poetry archive, ‘Displacement: stories of hope and humanity’ was launched this month on the Birmingham-based group’s online ‘poets corner’.

‘The aim of the project is to raise awareness about displaced peoples, increase understanding and challenge negative narratives about displacement and displaced peoples,’ Leaveners programme leader Jorine Beck told the Friend.

‘Poets from all backgrounds, including Quaker poets Ankie van der Ben and Bob Ward, have sent in poetry,’ she said.

This is Leaveners’ first online poetry archive inspired by a humanitarian theme, rather than the work of a specific poet.
