Poem: Tell me now
'She is five and she’s taking no hostages...'
She is five and she’s taking no hostages.
She wants to know why the sparrows die;
why her baby brother sleeps with sewage.
She wants to know why Bethlehem‘s
rebels aren’t given a massage. Why
no one has combed the hair of the dead
child or made her mother a cup of nettle
tea with lemon. Tell me now she says.
The poem of her eyes unrelenting.
