Pilgrims reach Canterbury
The Occupy Faith pilgrimage reach their destination
Quakers were among a group of pilgrims who have walked from London to Canterbury as a witness against economic injustice. Around thirty-five supporters of Occupy Faith – a group formed by religious supporters of the Occupy movement – spent twelve days on the walk, while others joined for parts of the journey. Those involved included Christians, Muslims, Sikhs and Rastafarians.
The walk began with a blessing by clergy at St Paul’s Cathedral. Along the way, the pilgrims spoke at an Anglican morning service and joined Sufi evening prayers. They held discussions with Sikhs in Gravesend, with the Bishop of Rochester and with a Conservative member of Medway Council. After arriving in Canterbury, they joined an economic conference at the University of Kent.
A spokesperson for Occupy Faith said: ‘There have been calls for similar actions and when we have rested we will start to develop these plans’.
