Quakers are expected to be among the pilgrims walking from London to Canterbury in an initiative launched by religious supporters of the Occupy movement. They have announced plans for a ‘Pilgrimage for Justice’ from 7 to 19 June, followed by a three-day conference at the University of Kent.

Along the way, the pilgrims plan to engage with local communities, faith groups and cooperatives. The route is about fifty miles long, with walking planned mostly for alternate days.

‘The Pilgrimage for Justice will be a highly visible statement of people’s determination to see a better, fairer society,’ said Tanya Paton of Occupy Faith. ‘It will also provide a focus for exploring what that kind of society might look like, and the policy changes to propose for getting there’.

St Paul’s Cathedral have agreed to bless the pilgrims at the beginning of their journey despite refusing to meet with five Christians removed from their steps at the eviction
