FWCC appeal has raised $20,000
More than $20,000 has been raised by Friends worldwide to help victims of the earthquake and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
The Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) appeal was launched last year in the wake of the natural disasters.
The money raised has gone to both unprogrammed and Evangelical Quakers in the country and is being given to Friends in need.
Gretchen Castle, FWCC general secretary, said: ‘We are delighted at the response of Friends worldwide. It is good the world office can play a positive role.
‘It is all about Friends giving to Friends. I am very pleased that both programmed and unprogrammed Friends are being helped. Friends who would like to contribute can do so through the FWCC website – www.fwccworld.org.’
The epicentre of the earthquake was on the island of Bohol where there is a small group of unprogrammed Quakers. Many members of the Friends Evangelical Yearly Meeting, which is affiliated with Evangelical Friends Church Eastern Region, live in the direct path of Typhoon Haiyan.
