Peru plenary planning progresses
Preparation for the World Plenary Meeting is underway
Preparation for the Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC)’s next World Plenary Meeting are well under way, said the organisers.
Four hundred Friends from around the world are expected to gather in Pisac, Peru, from 19 to 27 January 2016. The plenary will help shape the work of FWCC in the coming years, as well as the future of the organisation itself.
The theme of the meeting is ‘Living the transformation: Creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God (Romans 8:19)’. In addition to focusing on youth, Friends will further the Kabarak Call for Peace and Ecojustice, approved at the FWCC World Conference in 2012, and consider how they contribute to a peaceful and sustainable life on Earth.
‘The plenary, which only meets every four to five years, will have representation from Yearly Meetings affiliated with FWCC, from all the geographical and theological diversity of Friends. Being together will help Friends form connections with those from different traditions, giving us the unique opportunity to hear the wonderful diversity of Quaker voices’, FWCC general secretary Gretchen Castle told the Friend.
‘It will help us share a sense of living ministry, encouraging collective action, helping us know each other in the things that are eternal’, she added.
