Peacebuilding playlist on YouTube
A playlist of over seventy videos about peacebuilding and nonviolence has been compiled
A Britain Yearly Meeting employee has put together a playlist of over seventy YouTube videos that focus on the themes of peacebuilding and nonviolence.
In a post on the Quakers in Britain website, Tobias Wellner, East Africa programme manager, writes: ‘Looking for resources to share with my East African colleagues, I discovered that YouTube is not only a place where people share videos of violence, hate speech or cute cats; it is also a platform that allows you to seriously boost your knowledge in peacebuilding and nonviolence.’
The videos are categorised into different modules that loosely follow Turning the Tide (TTT) East Africa’s training manual. According to Tobias Wellner, training TTT facilitators is ‘a key part of the programme’. Workshops are the best approach, he says, but expensive and time- and energy-consuming. He says: ‘An obvious solution is to use online platforms for further education in peace and nonviolence where we can.’
The list includes videos from The Peacebuilding Practitioner, International Center on Nonviolent Conflict, US Institute of Peace, Peace Direct and Saferworld. He adds: ‘The internet has become too powerful in our lives to give that space up for violence, hate or cute cats. YouTube and the internet in general can be spaces for building peace.’
