Peacebuilder exhibition travels
Quaker exhibition on display at the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict
This Light that pushes ME, an exhibition on African peacemakers that recently graced the walls of Friends House, has been on display at the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict, which took place in London between 10 and 13 June.
The exhibition, backed by Quaker Peace & Social Witness (QPSW), was visited by up to 400 people a day. Actress and UN special envoy Angelina Jolie and British foreign secretary William Hague were among the visitors (pictured).
The exhibition features excerpts from a book and collection of photographs, This light that pushes me, where African peacebuilders relate their journey from violence to healing to activism.
‘Visitors were very moved, with lots of them photographing the poems on display. Many also asked about Quakerism,’ Laura Shipler Chico, QPSW programme manager for peacebuilding in East Africa, told the Friend.
QPSW hopes that the exhibition will next be seen at the Nobel Peace Laureate Summit in South Africa in October.
