Peace pole for Ukraine
'May peace prevail on earth'
Lancashire Friends installed a new peace pole on the third anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine on 24 February.
Ben Pink Dandelion, from Clitheroe Meeting, told the Friend: ‘We had been in touch with the council about finding a good location but ended up realising that we had the perfect prime site ourselves, as the Meeting house is right next to the market.
‘As with the other 250,000 peace poles globally, it has the words: “May peace prevail on earth” on it. We chose English (also in Braille), Urdu and Polish, both widely spoken in Clitheroe, and Japanese because of our connection with Friends School, Tokyo, and because of the peace pole project’s origin in Japan.’
Clitheroe is the second Meeting in Pendle Hill Area Meeting to install a peace pole after Chorley Friends worked with the council over a number of years to have one unveiled in 2024 in Astley Park, Chorley.

Actually, it’s the third one in the AM, with another in the front of Bolton Quaker Meeting House.
