Friends held a fundraising 'Palestinian Supper' on 5 October
Around thirty-five Friends from Stocksfield, Hexham, Durham, Monkseaton, Newcastle and Sunderland came together to share ‘A Palestinian Supper’ on 5 October.
The evening was held to celebrate Quaker Week at the Stocksfield Institute, with food prepared by Caroline Westgate, a member of Stocksfield Meeting.
Janet Lloyd, who is also from Stocksfield Meeting, said that the event was to raise funds so two or three students from the Quaker School in Ramallah could join Northern Young Friends’ annual Summer Shindig at Ackworth School in Pontefract.
The initiative to bring Ramallah students to the UK was started ten years ago by Tynedale Meeting.
Jonathan Adams, from Sunderland Meeting, gave a talk about his experiences with the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI). The evening raised more than £400.
