Take a hand, an open hand
(Maybe your hand)
Pulsating with possibilities
Holding, placing, lifting, stroking
Playing, giving, building, writing
A biological wonder at our disposal
Now close it.
The fingers curl in on themselves
The hand has gone – a fist remains
And what can anyone do with that?
Take a mind, an open mind
(maybe your mind)
Welcoming new ideas, new ways
New growth, new friends
Assimilating, discovering, accepting
A psychological wonder at our disposal
Now close it.
Reject, deny, refuse, attack
The mind has become a mind-fist
And what can anyone do with that?
Take a heart, an open heart
(maybe your heart)
The home of our essential being
Loving, caring, forgiving, sharing
Living in a state beyond self
Prompted by Love and Truth
A spiritual wonder at our disposal
Now close it.
Harden and freeze it, make it a heart-fist
And what can anyone do with that?
Who would not rather open to the Light
Than enclose themselves in shadows?
