Opening to new light
Vivien Whitaker reflects on being moved to serve as an elder at a neighbouring Local Meeting
‘Be aware of the spirit of God at work in the ordinary activities and experience of your daily life. Spiritual learning continues throughout life, and often in unexpected ways. There is inspiration to be found all around us, in the natural world, in the sciences and arts, in our work and friendships, in our sorrows as well as in our joys. Are you open to new light, from whatever source it may come? Do you approach new ideas with discernment?’ (Advices & queries 7) We are accepted into membership by our Area Meeting, not the Local Meeting we attend regularly. These words, mentioned by a Friend recently, resonated within me as I sat in Notts & Derby Area Meeting in July hearing of the need for an elder at Mansfield Meeting. Their Meeting was currently small and was being supported by several people from other Meetings in different roles.
