Olympic rower joins staff at The Mount
Gillian Lindsay joins staff at The Mount as director of sport and wellbeing
Olympic silver medallist rower Gillian Lindsay has been appointed by The Mount School in York as their new director of sport and wellbeing. Gillian was a national champion in the single scull at thirteen and went on to become world champion in 1998. She has competed in three Olympic Games and in Sydney 2000 she and her team won Great Britain’s first women’s rowing Olympic medal, taking silver in the women’s quadruple sculls.
Gillian, who is Britain’s most successful woman sculler of all time, said that she was absolutely delighted at her appointment to the Quaker school.
Julie Lodrick, principal of The Mount, welcomed her appointment. She said: ‘Children learn many important values through sport, such as empathy, the benefits of persistence and how to cope with disappointment.’
She added: ‘While The Mount has very high levels of sports participation throughout the school, the important challenge lies in inspiring the girls to continue pursuing their own health and fitness after their school years have ended.’
