Norwegian pilgrimage to ‘1652’ country
Young Friends from Norway travelled to '1652' country
Friends in England welcomed six Norwegian Young Quakers last month on a trip to visit George Fox ‘1652’ country.
Per Ingvar Haukeland, leader of the Norwegian Young Friends group, told the Friend: ‘We had a wonderful pilgrimage… meeting lots of very interesting and friendly people.’ He added that the pilgrimage had made a lasting impression on them.
The Norwegian Friends visited Bunhill Meeting House, next to where George Fox’s grave is, Friends House in London, the church in the town of Fenny Drayton, Leicestershire (where George Fox was born), and Woodbrooke in Birmingham.
The itinerary also included Clitheroe Meeting House and Pendle Hill, from where the Norwegian Friends travelled through the Yorkshire Dales to Brigflatts and Firbank Fell, and on to the Quaker Tapestry Museum in Kendal. Yealand Quaker School and Meeting House, and Swarthmoor Hall were also visited, as well as Ulverston Meeting House, Sunbrick burial ground, and Lancaster Castle and prison.
