Norway Friends in peace plea
Norway Yearly Meeting have written to the new NATO secretary general
The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Norway have written to new NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg, urging his organisation to play a stronger role in peace building.
Quakers in Norway stressed the importance of diplomatic channels ‘from first to last in all conflicts’, and asked that the United Nations system be utilised to its fullest capacity.
‘It is of foremost importance that NATO continues the work of dismantling atomic arsenals in Europe. We do not believe that our security can be strengthened by the production and deployment of weapons of mass destruction’, Stephen Collett, clerk of Norway Yearly Meeting, wrote.
