Norfolk Friends mark Fox400
Music and the Quaker Tapestry were part of the Fox400 celebrations in Wells-next-the-Sea in July
Wells-next-the-Sea Meeting celebrated the 400th anniversary of George Fox’s birth last month with music and a Quaker Tapestry exhibition.
David Saunders, from the Meeting, told the Friend: ‘We then listened to excerpts from a recording of The Leaveners’ cantata: “The Fire and the Hammer”. Thirty Ffriends attended including some from Norfolk & Waveney Area Meeting, plus a strong contingent from our local Churches Together.’
According to David Saunders, the recording includes ‘very powerful and dramatic’ readings from The Journal of George Fox. These were spoken by Quaker actor Barry Wilsher in the local accent of Fenny Drayton, Leicestershire, where Fox was born. ‘This brought Fox’s journey to faith so vividly to life that it provoked one of our Anglican guests to ask: “Whatever happened to your Pentecostal vision?”,’ said David.
