‘No more Fukushimas’ protest
65 people gathered for a peaceful protest
Some of the fifty-eight adults and seven children – including Quakers from Lancaster, Liverpool, Settle, Keighley and London – who gathered for a peaceful protest at Heysham Nuclear Power Station on Saturday. They were overlooked by two police armed with machine guns.
The protest, prompted by recent rising sea levels and storm surges, raised concerns about the safety of nuclear reactors sited along the British coastline. It also highlighted the continuing and long term problem of nuclear waste storage.
