Newcastle Friends host Zen musicians
A meditative musical style has been hosted at Newcastle Meeting House
Newcastle Meeting House hosted a meditative musical performance based on Zen Art principles as part of its expanding music programme.
The Shunyata Improvisation Group played at the Meeting house on 3 March to welcome ‘Spring’s burgeoning light’. They also performed a piece by candlelight, in Advent 2018, to twenty non-Quakers.
Rosalind Ahmed, house manager of Newcastle Meeting House, said the performance aimed to ‘provide an immersive experience for both performers and listeners. Once again their meditative musical style reflected Quaker practices of centring, reflection and being open to new light.’ The group plans to return in midsummer.
