Quaker Homeless Action (QHA) has opened a new winter shelter in London in partnership with the Simon Community.

The shelter in a church in Gospel Oak in north London opened on 2 January and will stay open until 31 March. It can accommodate eight people.

Katie Calvert, project coordinator and manager of QHA, told the Friend: ‘We’ve been working hard on partnering with other organisations recently as we are quite a small organisation. The Simon Community usually run a winter shelter in Gospel Oak but didn’t do last year because it didn’t have enough volunteers, so we decided to team up.

‘Two volunteers will stay over each night – people can have dinner, maybe watch a film and play some games – then go to bed. In the morning, we get up, help clear up and everyone leaves by eight o’clock.’
