New home for Christchurch Quakers
Christchurch Meeting of the Yearly Meeting of Aotearoa/New Zealand has found a new home
Christchurch Meeting of the Yearly Meeting of Aotearoa/New Zealand has found a new home. The original Meeting house and surrounding land were destroyed in the September 2010 Canterbury earthquake.
The old Meeting house was in the city’s ‘residential red zone’, so the property was bought by the government, Christchurch Friend Katy Sinton told the Friend.
‘That area is now parkland, with nothing to show [that] the Meeting house or surrounding residential area was there, except for the roads,’ she added.
Christchurch Friends have minuted that their new Meeting house will be known as the Quaker Centre.
