A new exhibition at the Peace Museum in Bradford is showcasing its distinctive textile collection.

The exhibition is entitled ‘Challenging the Fabric of Society’ and includes a wide range of items from the collection.

Handmade textiles that have been used at some of the most important peaceful protests and demonstrations of the twentieth century will be on show.

The exhibition includes banners and quilts made by women at Greenham Common and covers various themes, from anti-nuclear opposition to gay and women’s rights. Most of the items displayed have never been displayed before or are new acquisitions.

With a vibrant mix of colour and handmade craftsmanship, these textiles bring to life peace campaigns and tell the stories of those who have campaigned for peace.

The exhibition opened on Friday 11 November and it will run until 20 January 2017.

A special event was held on Thursday 17 November to celebrate the opening of the exhibition. It included talks by a textile specialist from Bradford Libraries’ ‘World War One Reading Rug Project’, a partner of the Peace Museum, discussing a joint education programme, ‘Poppies for Remembrance’, when over 120 children took part in poppy workshops during the week.
