New editor for The Friend

Announcing the new editor of The Friend

The trustees of The Friend Publications Limited (TFPL) have expressed their delight at welcoming the new CEO and editor of TFPL on board. Joseph Jones will be the twentieth editor of the Friend since it began in 1843 and is currently publications manager for Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM). He was previously managing editor of the faith-based current affairs magazine Third Way and has worked for The Church Times and Olympic News Service.

Joseph Jones said: ‘Working at the Friend is a rare privilege and responsibility. It’s a wonderful opportunity and I’m very grateful for it. Successive editors have sought to be useful, courageous and curious, and I’m eager to continue that work. The modern world can be a challenge to our moral imagination, and we need the Friend to help meet that challenge. Quakerism has a distinguished history but I want us to build a fruitful future, too.’

Paul Jeorrett, clerk of trustees for TFPL, told the Friend: ‘Joseph brings a breadth of both editorial and managerial skills and experience, and staff and trustees are looking forward to working with him in this exciting period of development for TFPL.’

The new editor is planning to start in the New Year.
