Quaker Homeless Action appoints a new administrator

by The Friend Newsdesk 21st September 2012

Quaker Homeless Action (QHA) has appointed Siobhan Grimes as its new London-based part-time administrator.

Siobhan is a registered mental health nurse. She works as a campaigner for the environmental action group, Climate Rush, and will continue to work part-time with them.

Siobhan will be involved in organising volunteers for the QHA Christmas shelter at the Union Chapel in Islington, north London. She, her mother and grandmother have all volunteered at the shelter.

Siobhan said, ‘I became involved with the Quaker Homeless Action Christmas Shelter in 2010 when I volunteered in the medical team. I was really inspired by seeing the work of the volunteers and enjoyed chatting to homeless guests over a cup of tea or a board game. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming Christmas Shelter and to working with the Quaker Mobile Library project’.

Broadway’s Street to Home Bulletin published in May 2012 shows that between 2011 and 2012 there was a forty-three per cent increase in the number of people rough sleeping in London at least one night. The total was 5,768 people. Other parts of the country are also experiencing an increase in the number of rough sleepers.
