MP’s Quaker heritage
MP Thangam Debbonaire spoke about her Quaker heritage on 20 October
Bristol West MP Thangam Debbonaire has spoken out at a Quaker Socialist Society event about her Quaker heritage and its effect on her politics. At Bristol Central Meeting House on 20 October, she explained how her parents were Quakers by convincement, and as a child she attended Meetings in Wiltshire and Huddersfield.
Thangam Debbonaire said that she no longer goes to Meeting but her beliefs have not changed. She described the Quaker Peace Testimony as ‘difficult’, saying she would instinctively want to vote against Trident’s renewal, but might be required to vote according to Labour party policy.
