More low-cost rented homes needed
A report by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation has highlighted the need for 78,000 low-cost rented homes a year
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) has called on the government to build 78,000 low-cost rented homes a year to tackle the housing crisis.
According to the charity, high housing costs are trapping families in poverty. The analysis, published in February, argues that nearly 600 additional low-cost rented homes need to be built every week in order to help low-incomes families.
Brian Robson, the report’s author, says that plans announced by the government will deliver less than 100 new low-cost rented homes a week, one-sixth of the extra supply needed.
