Moment’s benediction

A moment takes place between

seeing and knowing we’ve seen.

A moment of awe,

a small benediction

as when I met a fox in the lane,

and we paused and looked at

the otherness of other.

In that hair’s breath of grace,

in the gap of a pause

when thought is at rest

without need to name

or say what it sees,

the unknowing mind

sets itself free

and lightly wills the world on.
