Michael Bartlet to leave Friends House
Michael Bartlet, parliamentary liason secretary, to leave Friends House in April.
Michael Bartlet, parliamentary liason secretary for Quakers in Britain, is to leave Friends House at the end of April. Michael has given seventeen years service in this position. He has had a special interest in human rights, policy and political ethics and education.
He has been actively involved over the years in raising the concerns of Quakers in parliament and with government. Recent concerns include his work on under-eighteens in the armed forces and on same sex marriage. He has been a regular attender at party conferences and is a familiar and very respected figure at Westminister.
Michael said: ‘I have hugely valued the experience of working on the boundary between faith and politics. One of the most rewarding aspects of my role has been the experience, on several occasion, of being part of a Meeting for Worship at the Palace of Westminster. If politicians could find more time for reflection then legislation could be improved. Legislation has been increasingly driven by the desire to send messages rather than the need to create law.’
