Mental health and young people
Friends gathered in Birmingham for an event organised by the Quaker Mental Health Forum
Seventy friends gathered at the ‘Mental Health and Young People’ day in Birmingham, organised by the Quaker Mental Health Forum. The day at the Priory Rooms on 3 November brought together Friends to share personal and professional experiences in workshops and reflective spaces.
Alison Mitchell, mental health development officer at The Retreat York Benevolent Fund, told the Friend: ‘The mental wellbeing of young people is often in the news: the Forum offered a day to reflect more deeply. There was information… but most importantly there was sharing. There were tears, laughter, despair and inspiration: there was love. There was also a call to action – for all Friends to become more aware of mental health issues, to listen and to be involved. This was a day of making connections, of hearing and listening – perhaps the start of great things.’
