Meetings for Sufferings: Quaker recognised bodies
Three more groups were brought to Meeting for Sufferings as proposed Quaker Recognised Bodies
A Quaker Recognised Body (QRB) is an independent group where concerned Friends explore a common interest, seek affirmation, or carry out witness.
It wishes to be recognised as a Quaker organisation because its Quaker roots are an important part of its identity.
Sufferings was told, at the meeting on 1 April, that in December 2016 four groups were registered by Meeting for Sufferings following a pilot coordinated by staff at Friends House: Living Witness; Quaker Disability Equality Group; Quaker Values in Education; and Quaker Action on Alcohol and Drugs.
In the session on Saturday afternoon Sufferings was informed of three other groups that staff at Friends House considered had met ‘the criteria for listing them as Quaker Recognised Bodies’ and were ‘happy to recommend that Meeting for Sufferings registers them’.
The groups concerned were the Nontheist Friends Network, the Quakers and Business Group, and Quaker Concern for Animals.
