Meeting for Sufferings: TTIP concern
West Somerset Area Meeting sent a minute to Meeting for Sufferings
Meeting for Sufferings received a minute from West Somerset Area Meeting regarding the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). It was suggested that it be forwarded to Quaker Peace & Social Witness Central Committee.
A Friend stressed that TTIP will give power to large corporations, will not create a new economy or equality and is counter to Quakers’ concerns over climate change.
He said: ‘It is time to do, as a Society, what many local councils are doing – to declare ourselves a TTIP-free zone.’
Paul Parker urged Friends to continue to lobby their MPs at a local level while Britain Yearly Meeting does so at a national level.
