Meeting for Sufferings: Truth and integrity in public affairs
Friends were asked to consider a developing concern
Sufferings was asked to reflect on the lack of transparency and integrity in government and prompted to articulate ‘this developing concern’.
Several subjects raised at Sufferings touched on the subject. These included the concern among Scottish Friends over the promotion of cadet forces in Scottish state schools and a minute of concern from Pendle Hill Area Meeting over fracking. Both highlighted the lack of consultation there had been with local communities and raised concerns over a lack of transparency and integrity in the way government worked.
Friends were reminded of previous Quaker Peace & Social Witness work on ‘Truth and Integrity in Public Affairs’, which was laid down in 2004.
