Meeting for Sufferings: Reputational risk

Britain Yearly Meeting trustees have been discussing reputational risk

by Ian Kirk-Smith 19th April 2013

Jennifer Barraclough, clerk of Britain Yearly Meeting trustees, reported on their latest meeting. She talked about some of the subjects raised, such as giving, and said that ‘reputational risk’ is an issue that ‘began to emerge some time ago’.

She said: ‘The name “Quaker” is used widely throughout Yearly Meeting. All of us have a right and a duty to see that our reputation is protected.’ Friends were reminded of a truth – reputational matters are easily overlooked when things are fine – and a useful saying: ‘Experience is what you get just after you could usefully use it.’ While there is a lot of good practice going on, the subject of reputational risk is a valuable area for discussion and information.
